UNDERSTANDING THE UNDERSTANDING

This series was something special to me. I wanted to play with the roles of masculine and feminine perception and sexuality. My goal is to capture your mind, I want a person to think about the possibilities. I tend to do that often in my work. I find that understanding a person can be a simple glimpse in the eyes. If you look a person in the eyes, you can actually read them. You can feel their anxiety, anger, and pain. You can feel when that energy shifts to love, ambition, confidence, and bravery. The challenge was trying to explain all of this in one single photo… okay maybe 2… or 3 TOPS.

Okayyy… so how I decided to shoot the twins…

It all started on a random night while I was rushing to shoot the blue photo of Emmalee in the white glasses, that you all love so much. I was telling her how I wanted to shoot something cool and shocking that made sense. She began to tell me how she had a twin. I was like “Wait there’s TWO of you?”. This intrigued me for some reason. I found myself asking a billion questions. “Is your twin as gorgeous as you are?” “Are you guys identical?” “Does your twin model too?” “Can you ask if I could pay Them?” Emmalee chuckled at my excitement. I could tell she was just as excited for my excitement. (if that makes sense)…. Emmalee then gave me a deep understanding of their lifestyle . Lost in my thoughts I was trying to keep up with getting to know this cool person I was getting to know through Emmalee. Trying to completely understand Them, I asked “So are you the twin or does Kalli have a twin?” she looked at me with the eyes of understanding. She somehow understood I didnt understand but I wanted to understand. So Emmalee took a deep breath and explained Non-binary

Non-binary, also known as genderqueer, is a spectrum of gender identities that are not exclusively masculine or feminine‍—‌identities that are outside the gender binary. So after Emmalee’s patience and elaboration on something I had never been introduced to, I coincidentally narrated her lifestyle through what I wanted to portray with this production. In masculinity and femininity there is a state of understanding one’s self and being brave enough to stare yourself in your own eyes and be happy, fearless, and radiate the most SELF LOVE as possible!!

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be open to understanding that anything is possible through love… to LIVE is to LOVE.

Thank you!

GERVANNI'S LEMONADE

Baby Gervanni, Lemonade series:

This series was Mom’s (Dretta) idea. Baby Gervanni’s 1st birthday was coming up. Mom had a great idea to have a “Lemonade Stand” birthday party. I asked Mom to send over some reference photos that captured a theme for Vanni’s shoot. With an idea, we decided to brainstorm adorable ways sit Vanni in piles of lemons! This set us up on a mission in search for something to sit or lay her in. We then decided a vintage metal bucket would be perfect! I thought to myself “Where the HELL am I going to find a old metal bucket?” I then called Ky and explained the party theme. We both decided it would be so cute to do it outside of the studio with natural lighting. LOCATION [X}. We drove to a few different thrift stores looking for a bucket…a BUCKET… After two hours of driving to different stores, Ky wanted to stop at Michael’s to pick up supplies for other projects we were working on. I thought to myself “Michael’s duhhhhh…. Why didn’t we think of that in the first place?” We go inside and there were BUCKETS EVERYWHERE….so then I ended up walking out with buckets in all shapes and sizes... Moral of the story: Michael’s has metal buckets in all shapes and sizes. Thank me later!

DREAMADAI

TRUE STORY. Ky and I were randomly thrift shopping for a shoot we had coming up (the gothic series). Ky thought we should shop Buffalo Exchange, which I was excited about because I hadn't been inside of this store since I lived in LA. I was so wrapped up in the aura of the store and the vibes for a second that I forgot I was shopping for models! I was beyond caught up in the store and the unique style of it’s shoppers. I remember looking for glasses and then all of a sudden, I hear Ky compliment someone from across the store. I never looked over because my face was stuck in the mirror looking at the unique glasses I would never have the guts to wear out in public. Ky began to get annoyed yelling “Can we PLEASE check out now!”. I looked up and there you have it, Dream Adai. Her and Ky were both staring at me laughing at how oblivious I was of my surroundings. I finally gathered what I was actually there to purchase and approached the counter where Dream and Ky were impatiently waiting. Dream asked if I was ready to check out and I subconsciously responded, “Wow you’re so cute and dope. What do you do?” She was looking all shy and said “I’m an artist.” I instantly said “LETS SHOOT! I love your style.” She smiled and asked “Really?” Ky was thinking “Did she really just question her pure dopeness like that?” I gave her my card, her assistant reached out, and the rest was history… Moral of the Story: Buffalo Exchange not only has dope hidden gems in clothing, but also dope hidden gems of people. I found that like minded creative people just so happen work there too. Thank me later!

TREE SOUND STUDIO LIFE

Sometimes we as people need to clear our head just to create. Creativity is something you are born with. Being creative is something you have to work on.

Watching and listening to the process of young men make their dream come true is a dream for me.
